Ready for a morning of rod-bending action in Puerto Rico's hidden fishing gem? Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, this trip offers the perfect blend of relaxation and excitement as you explore the rich waters of Puerto Real.
Kicking off at 7 AM, this private charter gets you on the water when the fish are most active. You'll cruise through shallow estuaries and along calm shorelines, where Captain Tony's local knowledge puts you right on top of the action. The beauty of inshore fishing is that it's accessible to all skill levels - you don't need to be a pro to land a trophy. With light tackle in hand, you'll be casting for snook lurking in the mangroves, tarpon rolling on the surface, and snappers hugging the bottom. It's a laid-back vibe, but don't be fooled - when a fish hits, you'll be in for a fight!
This isn't your average cast-and-wait fishing trip. Captain Tony employs a mix of techniques to maximize your chances of hooking up. You'll start with some slow trolling near the mangrove channels, a killer method for enticing big snook and tarpon out of their hidey-holes. As you drift along, you'll switch it up with some light tackle casting - perfect for picking off snappers and jacks that are hanging around structure. The calm inshore waters make for a smooth ride, so you can focus on your fishing game without worrying about seasickness. And here's a pro tip: keep an eye out for birds diving - that's often a dead giveaway for where the fish are feeding!

"I finally got a chance to take my son fishing on a much anticipated charter fishing adventure in Puerto Rico and Capt. Antonio Zapata of the Reel Knowledge made our trip extremely memorable. We hit it off right away after meeting up at his marina in Puerto Real just because he has a friendly and easygoing personality. Once we launched, he was quick to point out the local attractions and beaches while explaining the different fishing techniques we would employ to catch fish. By the time we got to our spot, we quickly fell into a rhythm and we're catching fish in no time. Almost immediately, we were hooked up on Red Grouper, Yellow Tail snapper and red snapper. Figuring the fish out and their subtle bites while Cpt. Zapata managed the drift made this a very cool experience. I even caught my son smiling to himself as he fought a fish. Drifting and trolling was relaxing as we dreamed of what type of fish might bite but as is the case with fishing, there were no takers on this trip. But to cap the day off perfectly, once we got back to the shallow bay, Cpt. Zapata changed out the rigs and showed us how to cast and instantly my son was hooked tight to an awesome 50+ lb. Tarpon. The fight was on and after a grueling 20 or so minutes and more than a fair share of jumps, the beast was landed. Mission accomplished Capt. Antonio Zapata, I will be back." - Yakin
"Best experience in Cabo Rojo. Thanks Capt. Tony" - Reinaldo
Snook: These hard-fighting fish are the prize of inshore waters. Sneaky and powerful, snook love to hang out near mangroves and structure. They're known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps when hooked. The best time to target them is during the warmer months, especially around dawn and dusk. Anglers love the challenge of outwitting these smart fish, and their firm, white flesh makes them excellent table fare too.
Great Barracuda: Don't let their toothy grins fool you - barracuda are some of the most exciting fish to catch in Cabo Rojo's inshore waters. These sleek predators are lightning-fast and put on a show when hooked, often leaping clear out of the water. They're around year-round but are particularly active in the warmer months. While they're not typically eaten, the fight they put up is worth the price of admission alone. Just be careful when handling them - those teeth are no joke!
Tarpon: Known as the "silver king," tarpon are the ultimate game fish for many inshore anglers. These prehistoric-looking giants can grow over 100 pounds and are famous for their gill-rattling jumps and long, powerful runs. Tarpon fishing in Cabo Rojo peaks in the late spring and summer, but you can find some year-round. Landing a tarpon is a bucket-list experience for many fishermen, and even if you don't bring one to the boat, just seeing one of these massive fish roll on the surface is a sight you won't forget.
This Cabo Rojo inshore charter is more than just a fishing trip - it's a chance to experience the rich marine life of Puerto Rico up close and personal. With Captain Tony's expert guidance, you're in for a morning of non-stop action and the potential for some serious bragging rights. Whether you're looking to bend a rod on some hard-fighting snook, test your skills against a high-flying tarpon, or just enjoy a peaceful morning on the water, this trip delivers. Great barracuda are the speed demons of our inshore waters. These long, silvery predators can hit 35 mph in short bursts. Most we see are 2-4 feet, but the big ones push 6 feet and 100 pounds. They love hanging around reefs and grass flats, often near the surface. Spring and summer are best for hooking into one. Barracuda put up an exciting fight with fast runs and acrobatic leaps. While they're not great eating, anglers get a kick out of their aggressive strikes and toothy grins. To catch one, try trolling with flashy lures or live bait near drop-offs. Just keep your fingers clear of those razor teeth when unhooking! A wire leader is a must, or they'll slice right through mono. Pro tip: On sunny days, look for their silver flashes as they hunt - it's a dead giveaway.

Snook are a prized catch around here, often hanging out in the mangroves and estuaries. They're sleek fish, usually 1-2 feet long, with a distinctive black lateral line. Spring and fall are prime seasons when water temps are just right. These fish put up a heck of a fight - they'll make sudden runs and even jump to throw the hook. Locals love 'em for both the sporty action and tasty white meat. To land a snook, try working soft plastic lures or live bait near structure during incoming tides. Just watch out for their gill plates - they're sharp! A medium spinning setup with 20 lb test does the job nicely. Oh, and here's a tip: If you see mullet jumping, there's a good chance snook are chasing them. Cast into the commotion and hold on tight.

Tarpon are the silver kings of our waters, and for good reason. These prehistoric-looking fish can grow over 6 feet long and top 100 pounds. You'll find them rolling in our shallow bays and channels, especially in spring and summer. Tarpon are famous for their spectacular aerial shows - they'll leap several times their body length out of the water when hooked. It's pure adrenaline when one hits. While we don't eat them, the challenge of landing one keeps anglers coming back. Live mullet or crabs are top baits, but artificials work too. Use heavy tackle and be ready for a long fight. My local tip? Watch for "laid-up" tarpon resting near the surface on calm mornings. A well-placed cast can trigger an explosive strike. Just remember, these fish are catch-and-release only - treat 'em gently.
